Kingston is the business capital of Jamaica, which essentially means that it’s not known for it’s resorts in the same way that Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril are. Kingston is more for business rather than pleasure. However, there are still hotels that are worth a visit for your lowkey vacation/ non-vacation events. These hotels capitalize on being in the city centre and near cultural attractions, rather than lining a beach, to lay Kingston at their guests’ doors.

1. Altamont Court Hotel

A home in the hub, Altamont Court boasts putting their guests in a position to have everything they could ever need in their stay, both in and beyond the hotel itself. With 7 room categories to cater to any budget, their specialty aligns closer with events planning, with packages that cater to business conferences and weddings, as well as vacations. Overall, a quaint atmosphere as a reminder of home, that still allows guests to enjoy what Kingston has to offer.

2. The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites

Located in the centre of New Kingston, the Courtleigh Hotel is an ideal place to host various events such as weddings, seminars, parties, conferences and offers deals to cater to all of these different types of events. For a vacation, they offer seven different room categories, all of which are furnished with amenities such as air conditioning and WiFi among others. Dining is offered at the formal Alexander’s Restaurant or the leisurely Mingles Bar. However, the best part is that they have a vivid events calendar, theme nights and facilitate tours around Kingston, starting with Emancipation Park, which is right across the street. However, it is ideal for corporate trips rather than a family vacation.

3. The Jamaica Pegasus

Next door to the Courtleigh, which is a testament to the prime location, is the Jamaica Pegasus. Having a legacy of providing quality, here is a personal endorsement. The dining is superb with a wide and affordable menu at the Blue Window Restaurant that’s open to both guests and the general public upon reservation, as well as at 24 Seven Café when you have a sugar craving, need midday snack or brunch idea (pro tip: try the cheesecake). There is also the convenient White Orchid Salon and Spa for when you need time to unwind without having to leave the hotel in search of Kingston’s many spas. And this is on top of 7 room categories, a fitness centre, tennis court, pool with a 3-tiered fountain and jogging trail. And did I mention that central location, because that’s important in order to get the most out of Kingston.

4. Spanish Court Hotel

The warm scarlet décor will set the tone of your stay at Spanish Court; your escape whilst staying in the city. Every escape requires a visit to the spa and Spanish Court provides that, with an in-house spa that offers manicures, pedicures, face and body treatments. There are also dining options for every moment of the day – brunch at the café, the Cabana pool bar for lunch, Red Lounge for evening cocktails or the Sky Terrace and its panoramic view of the city at night to end the perfect day. And what city escape would be complete without a luxurious room to settle in, with Spanish Court’s choice of suites and guestrooms, you’re sure t find something to your liking.

5. Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel

Terra Nova is the embodiment of sophistication that you can’t get anywhere else in Kingston. Smaller than other hotels, it’s décor is a happy mixture of old aristocracy and modern luxuries in every room. And they uphold this standard in all of their amenities; first-class dining from appetizer to dessert, quality staff service, refined pool deck and sunbathing terrace. And Terra Nova puts you in line with several city attractions with a guarantee of proximity, starting with Devon House at less than five minutes away. If you’re looking to add some opulence to your Kingston stay, Terra Nova knows how to deliver.
